Art wants to create a book about World War II and his best resource is his father. He and his wife, Art’s mother, have lived through the complete war, through the beginning where the Jews got less priveleges, to towns with Jews driven together, to Auschwitz. So Art visits his sick father every week and wants to hear every story his father has to tell about his family and their friends.
A strange mixture of comic and brutal seriousness. You will be absorbed by the story and silent when you close the book after you read the last page. You will be silent for the next couple of minutes/hours; that’s the effect the book had on me anyway.
