The sequel of Bridget Jones’s diary.

Bridget has grown up: she has a nice job and an even nicer boyfriend. But she still manages to screw things up.
This year she gets herself in to trouble, or better yet, in jail, in a foreign country. Finally she gets the change to lose some weight, but this wasn’t the way she intended. The only problem is; the one person who can get her out of trouble, she isn’t speaking to.

Bridget is in need of a boyfriend and quick. She knows she’s not getting any younger (thirty-something), so she needs to take serious action. She keeps a diary to keep track of her daily troubles and whereabouts, victories and mistakes to keep herself and her life focused.
Bridget has two men in her life: Daniel Cleaver, a very hansom, flirtatious guy, (probably great at everything,) who happens to be her boss and the totally inappropriate Mark Darcy with whom she was acquainted at her mothers new years turkey curry buffet. He’s rude, wears awful jumpers and always says the wrong things. So, the decision at hand shouldn’t be a big problem, should it? Then you haven’t met Bridget yet! So busy trying to get everything right, overseeing the obvious.

This contemporary version of Austen’s Pride and prejudice is written in a very humorist way. In all honesty I have to say it is probably a real women’s book. Women will suffer together with Bridget when she tries to keep her calories to a minimum, but ending up eating more in the process, when she tries to reason with men’s logic, but fails miserably. But in the end she gets it right.

Have fun with this one, I certainly did.

Bridget Jones meets James Bond — result: Olivia Joules (that’s “J.O.U.L.E.S. the unit of kinetic energy”), another character of Helen Fielding’s fantastic mind. In the mood for an easy read and hilarious story? Pick up this book and you’ll have a great couple of days.

Olivia is a serious (well, actually not too serious) journalist. When she gets the opportunity to go to Los Angeles for a story (easy job in the sun) on a new facial creme in a super deluxe hotel she doesn’t say no. Who would, right? But those two days in sunny USA is the beginning of a strange journey. When, at the launch of the facial crème, she first lays eyes on an Osama bin Laden look-a-like (or is it him really?), she thinks she has discovered an al-Quaeda plot. Convinced she has to follow her gut and should take this opportunity to prove herself as a ‘real’ journalist, she dives right in the adventure that will take her from LA to Miami to London to Egypt to the Sudan. You will love her way of thinking and you will root for her all the way; does she get her story she has been waiting for? Will she uncover the al-Quaeda plot? Will she be a good help to the MI6? Or is it all just Olivia’s overactive imagination?

After this positive review I feel the need to say that this is really not a Bridget follow up. For me this book is not as good as the first Bridget Jones book. The characters are a little more flat and two-dimensional and some of the events, especially at the end and conclusion went a bit too far and were a bit too much for me. But, don’t let this hold you back picking up the book; great comic talent as we’re used to from Helen Fielding. Her style and choice of words will surely generate some laugh-out-loud moments.
Just don’t expect Bridget!
