A couple of years ago I was the owner and moderator of a Yahoo! group called Books2Movies. It was a nice group with people from all over the world who liked to talk about books that had been made into movies. A few of the people even read a book a month and saw the movie to talk about it and share their thoughts. Questions were asked, answers were given…we had a good time.

But then it happened: I didn’t have enough time to run the group properly anymore and the group faded away and became a very quiet place until eventually I made the decision to delete the group completely.

Now, here is the good news: I started Books2Movies again, now in a personal place on my server space. It’s still in early stages, but I hope, if you enjoy talking about books that are made into movies, you will decide to register and start chatting. I’m looking forward to give you my welcome!

Oh, by the way: apart from Books2Movies, there are also forums for general book talk, talk about reading and talk about writing. Let’s make Book Babble (that’s what I called the place) a room for every reader and/or writer out there.

I’ve finally arrived at a camping site with unlimited free wifi, so now I can update you all without any hurry.
I left you all just before I went to see Ice Age 3 in a cinema in Dorchester. Loved the movie, but I’m a total nut (notice the pun…?) when it comes to animation. Although not as good as the first Ice Age (and the second for that matter) I had a lovely time.
The next day I headed for Monkey World again. Didn’t see the complete park the first time and I had to say a proper goodbye to Sally (didn’t feel satisfied with the first goodbye).
It maybe sounds corny, but that’s just the way I am, deal with…I have .
After my departure from the first camping site, I headed to Wilton House. One of the houses used in the 2005 film Pride and Prejudice. Some of the rooms were used as rooms in Mr. Darcy’s estate Pemberley. And I can totally agree with that…the rooms were lovely. They even had some original Rembrandt’s hanging on the wall.
Still being in total aw, I drove to the place where my home would be set up next, oblivious of my surroundings. It was only in the corner of my eyes, that I saw something that resembled Stonehenge. And what do you know…it was Stonehenge. Check…seen it, just in time to make some pictures.

The next day I went to the Roald Dahl museum. Have to keep the literary line in this vacation. Great museum; learned a lot about Dahl and his books.

And if that wasn’t enough for one day, I also went to Oxford. I even studied there…although only the city map. There is really enough to see there and I’m going there again with more time. What I did see was the Christ Church College were Lewis Carroll was an under-graduate.

When walking through the town I stumbled upon Blackwell’s bookshop. Not easily impressed anymore with bookshops due to me working at one, I have to say…I was impressed. What a great store! Mouthwatering I walked past overly packed bookcases and shelves.
Shame though I discovered the store a little late in the day and they closed only twenty five minute after I walked in, weak knees and all. But all hope is not lost, because, as I have mentioned before, I’m going back to Oxford.
Yes indeed!!
Well, the days fly when you are having fun, and I do have fun. Since the last update I have seen Bath, the place with the Jane Austen Center and the houses she lived in. Salisbury (Jane Austen Museum and also used to be home to her) and the Winchester cathedral (Austen’s last resting place) have yet to be seen.
Yesterday I went to a Swanary and subtropical garden in Abbotsburry and today I spent in Dorchester.

(Sorry for letting you tilt your head, but a little exercise hurt nobody.)
And while Hardy was watching over ‘his’ Casterbridge, I went to the old Crown Court and the military museum and am about to check out Ice Age 3 in the local cinema.
Bye for now.
Copyright © 2010 the other book review. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only.

Finally found a wifi spot that is not secured so I can update some information.
Some change in plans have been happening and the vacation will probably be less literary than I thought at the beginning. The little bookshop town Hay-on-Wye will not be visited by me this time around, but Bath is still one plan I have not meddled with yet. Furthermore, I will probably visit two or three houses and gardens were the Hollywood people shot the film Pride and prejudice.

Yesterday I went to Lulworth Castle and Thomas Hardy (the famous author) had something to do with the architecture of the little church of St. Andrew on the premises. So that’s kind of literary right?
And I learned there that Hardy’s Casterbridge is his name for Dorchester. That’s nice to know.

Last but not least, I have seen Sally in the meantime and here is a picture of her:

Hooray.…my vacation is a few days away and not a moment too soon.
As of Sunday I will be making the British roads and camping sites unsafe with my presence.

First order of (monkey) business: doing my adoptive parent thing and visit Sally. I’m her parent now for four years, but I’ve never seen her in real life. Finally it’s happening!

After being a few days on the South coast I’m heading up to Wales, but not without visiting Bath. Here is where the literary part of the vacation begins. Most of Jane Austen’s Northanger Abbey takes place in Bath and I’m determined to follow in the footsteps of Catherine Morland, the main character. Jane Austen herself lived in Bath a short while and I’m looking forward to visiting the centre.
Then, having arrived in Wales, I’m going to visit Hay-on-Wye (Welsh: Y Gelli), a little town with a population of 1500, but with approximately thirty (yes people…30!) major bookshops. That’s paradise for ya! I hope I will not be coming back with a whole new library.

After those days in heaven, I’m not sure what I will do and see next, that part of the vacation is not planned yet. But who cares anyway, the little literary nerd inside of me whispers to me.

So, that was the preview of my vacation and I hope I have the time and I’m not to lazy to update my adventures during the trip.

Now I’m going to have a cup of tea!

I haven’t been posting lately and I’m hanging my head in shame, but sometimes reality takes over, things have to be taken care of and time isn’t on your side.
Well, time hasn’t been on my side for a while now and reading became a luxury where I can only dream of.
The worst is over though and you will soon see my reviews popping up again.

Hi,

Maybe you already noticed, but I have a new domain for all my book reviews: the other book review. I thought it was time to leave sterrenmeisje behind for my reviews, they deserve a place of their own, with a name that already explained what is happening on my site, without a big questionmark as to what sterrenmeisje means.

So if you happened to have my reviews site bookmarked, please change it in your favorites.

Sterrenmeisje will keep on living, but with a different set up and content. It will probably be an English and Dutch site, with writings, art, scribbles, everything I want of my chest. But I haven’t really decided yet about the how and when.

So, please feel welcome at the other book review!

EB
