solanin — asano inio

Meiko recently graduated from university and works in a job she hates. Her boyfriend Naruo works part-time and wants to make it in the music business. He doesn’t make enough money to have a roof of his own, so he lives under Meiko’s. One day Meiko decides to quite her job and take some time to think about what she really wants and what part she wants to play in the world. This time off strains the relationship not only financially, but also mentally. Naruo has always depended on Meiko for money and advise, but Meikois in a place where she cannot give either. It will prove that the change Meiko made will not be the only one.

how to hug a porcupine — dr. debbie ellis

Dr. Debbie Ellis has written a self-help kind of book about an “easy way to love the difficult people in your life”. First off she explains what a porcupine is and how the human equivalent shows itself. Then, per page, you get a special technique how to respond to or deal with a specific behavior by your porcupine.

It’s a very entertaining book you may learn from or get the appraisal for your work you were so desperate for.

the delegates’ choice — ian sansom

Israel is fed up with being the mobile librarian for the Tumdrum district. He and his work aren’t respected and taken seriously. He is going to resign, and not like the countless previous times, but this time for real. He is going to announce it during the meeting and that’s that. Or so he thought…
During the meeting there is mention of a happening for mobile libraries that is going to take place in London. And where would Israel rather be than in London! So the resignation has to wait a little while longer and he and Ted should get on their way to the mainland…that is, if Israel gets Ted to come with him; not an easy task. When finally Israel and Ted, after a lot of bickering and driving, arrive in London at Israel’s mother’s house, disaster strikes (again). The Mobile Library, Ted’s pride and joy, is stolen and I can say one thing: Ted is not amused!
